On 30 January, Argentina’s government published in the Boletin Oficial, Decree N° 67/2021 extending the lockdown until 28 February 2021 for the Buenos Aires metropolitan region.1

(For prior coverage, see GMS Flash Alert 2021-004, 5 January 2021.)

WHY THIS MATTERS

The measures extended in the new decree could continue to delay travel plans by residents of Buenos Aires and individuals who have plans to travel to and from (as well as within) the Buenos Aires metropolitan region.

Travel restrictions remain largely the same as arrivals into the country are forbidden for foreign nonresident individuals through ports, airports, international border crossings, and any other access point to reduce the chances of infection and spread of the COVID-19.

Measures advising people to keep 1.5 meters apart, to use a face mask, to use gel-alcohol and to avoid meetings in closed spaces, are still in place to prevent the spread of the virus.

KPMG NOTE

The current circumstances present continuing challenges as the length of the quarantine period is currently unknown and the situation could change in the future.

Any individuals impacted by the quarantine extension may wish to consult with their global mobility advisers and immigration legal counsel as soon as possible for advice on next steps.
