KPMG has made over 150 centre visits to gather the insights of care teams on improving the quality of care in Immunology, Oncology and Infectious Diseases. The findings have been collated into several reports to provide good practice guides, which can be accessed below.

Improving quality of care in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) worldwide

This report presents examples of good practice interventions that aim to improve the quality of life for patients with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) worldwide. The KPMG team interviewed oncologists, haematologists and other healthcare professionals in a number of centres involved in AML patient care. In collaboration with an expert steering committee, comprised of AML specialists, features of good practice were identified across the patient pathway and documented in the report. It outlines practices that promote early diagnosis and support the effective management of AML and associated comorbidities to improve outcomes for patients. The report was published in Summer 2023.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and associated comorbidities in Europe

This report presents examples of good practice interventions that aim to improve the quality of life for patients with RA and associated comorbidities in Europe. The KPMG team interviewed rheumatologists and other healthcare professionals in a number of centres involved in RA patient care. In collaboration with a multidisciplinary steering committee, comprised of rheumatologists, comorbidity specialists, a rheumatology nurse and a patient representative, features of good practice were identified across the patient pathway and documented in the report. It outlines practices that promote early diagnosis and support the effective management of RA and associated comorbidities to improve outcomes for patients. The report was published in winter 2020.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and associated comorbidities in North America

Another regional report was produced to present examples of good practice interventions in RA focusing on North America (US & Canada). The KPMG team interviewed rheumatologists and other healthcare professionals in nine centres, and collaborated with each centre lead to identify and document the good practice interventions in the report. The report was published in summer 2021.

Haematological malignancy care in Latin America

This report presents examples of initiatives that are aimed at improving the care and management of patients with haematological malignancies in Latin America. The report is based on observational site visits conducted by the KPMG team to 10 leading centres across Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay. It outlines five key themes encompassing good practice, 25 underlying initiatives and over 70 case studies. The report was published in summer 2018.

Hepatitis C (HCV) care

This report presents examples of successful interventions along the HCV patient pathway from 22 centres globally. The KPMG team interviewed HCV practitioners and patients in those centers to identify the universal principles of good care at each stage. The report also investigates the future of HCV care, taking into consideration the evolution of treatments - for example, new drug regimes. The HCV care report was published in winter 2015 – 2016.

Building on our original work, this report focuses on the management and care of HCV infected people who inject drugs from five site visits across Belgium, France, Italy and the UK. The report was published in winter 2017 – 2018.

Psoriatic Arthritis (PsA) care

This report presents examples of successful interventions along the PsA patient pathway from seven centres globally. The team interviewed PsA practitioners and patients in those centres to identify, document and share practices that promote timely and accurate diagnosis, increase the consistency of care, and improve outcomes for patients with PsA. The PsA care report was published in summer 2016.

Hidradenitic Suppurativa (HS) care

This report presents examples of successful interventions along the HS patient pathway from eight centres globally. Advised by the president of the EHSF (European Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation), the KPMG team interviewed HS practitioners and patients in those centres to identify, document and share practices that promote timely and accurate diagnosis, increase the consistency of care, and improve outcomes for patients with HS. The HS care report was published in summer 2016.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) care in Western Europe and Canada report

This report presents examples of successful interventions in IBD care. The KPMG team interviewed IBD practitioners and patients across eight sites to identify three main themes to promote high-quality care: patient-centred treatment; collaborative approach to management; and a willingness to innovate. The report was published in autumn 2014.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) care in Australasia report

Building on our original work in Western Europe and Canada, this report presents examples of successful interventions along the IBD patient pathway from six site visits; two sites each in Australia, Japan and South Korea. The KPMG team interviewed IBD practitioners and patients to build on themes previously identified as promoting high- quality: patient-centred treatment; collaborative approach to management; and a willingness to innovate. The extension of work allowed for the identification of further sub-themes under each main theme, and highlighted additional examples of successful interventions along the IBD patient pathway. The report was published in autumn 2015.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) care in Gulf region report

Building on our original work in Western Europe and Canada, this report presents examples of successful interventions along the IBD patient pathway from sites in Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The KPMG team interviewed IBD practitioners and patients to build on three main themes previously identified as promoting high- quality care: patient-centred treatment; collaborative approach to management; and a willingness to innovate. The sub-themes added based on our centre visits included: psychological support, patient centricity, culturally appropriate care, team morale and culture, peer-to-peer challenge, technology for patients and technology for centres. The report was published in winter 2015.
