The opportunity: Creating enterprise foundations for operational scaling in offshore wind
Vårgrønn AS, a joint venture owned by Plenitude (Controlled by Eni) and HitecVision with a team of around 60 professionals across Norway and the UK. The business was evolving from early phase development to the ambition for large-scale offshore wind farms and growing fast through joint ventures. Rising electricity demand, government support schemes, and a strategic shift from energy transition toward energy security signaled growth opportunities. But there was volatility in the renewable energy sector, too.
The offshore wind industry was navigating supply-chain constraints and rising financing costs. There were also rapid regulatory changes and market uncertainties to consider. All of which demanded agility — as well as robust systems for operational stability and quick decision-making. Yet Vårgrønn's technology landscape was fragmented, and they had outgrown earlier tech solutions. In order to scale up, a more refined and unified technology solution was needed across the group.
Vårgrønn saw the urgency of building systems they could grow into, not grow out of. Vårgrønn’s growth ambitions highlighted the timeliness of acting now — choosing to transition while growing, rather than waiting until existing systems further constrained ambition.
