Espen has over 17 years of experience in the energy sector from policy making, business strategy, international organizations and diplomacy. He currently co-leads the World Economic Forum’s Future of Energy System Initiative – a platform for leading companies, innovators, policy makers and experts to shape global energy developments. Espen has excellent knowledge of the renewable energy, electric utilities and oil and gas sectors gained from strategic planning and project management involving public and private stakeholders at top executive level. Espen is results-driven, creative and passionate about energy and sustainability issues. He has managed the World Economic Forum’s Electric Utility Industry community, lead the delivery of the energy program for CEOs and Ministers at the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meetings in Davos several times and developed the Forum’s Global Energy Performance Index. Prior to joining the World Economic Forum, Espen served as Norway’s representative to the International Energy Agency (IEA) and as energy Adviser in the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy.

Espen has a Master degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH) and graduated as a World Economic Forum Global Leadership Fellow. He is part of the Advisory Board of the IESE Business School Energy Club. Espen speaks 6 languages and enjoys practicing sports.
