Rolando Lopez

Rolando is currently the tax partner in charge of KPMG Tax operations in Puerto Rico. He has over 30 years of experience working with clients in various industries, including manufacturing, distribution and retail, telecommunications, real estate investors, among others, in corporate as well as individual taxation matters. A significant amount of Rolando’s time is devoted to developing tax strategies to align business objectives with an efficient tax structure. He assists companies in making sure they are in full compliance with the Puerto Rico and US tax laws when transferring employees, either on a permanent basis or temporarily. He also advises companies in areas such as the general tax implications of employees working in Puerto Rico, residency rules and the implications of these, and payroll and reporting issues, among others. He also advises companies on strategies and planning to minimize the Puerto Rico and US income tax impact when moving employees. Rolando has extensive experience in assisting clients before the Internal Revenue Service and the Puerto Rico Department of Treasury in cases where the taxpayers have been audited by these government authorities.
