Background
Conrad is currently Head of Global Tax Policy at KPMG International. Prior to this, he served as Head of the China Tax Centre at KPMG China, providing expert technical and policy support to client teams on complex and uncertain tax matters. He also served as the Asia-Pacific Tax Policy Leader, in particular driving global minimum tax initiatives in the region. Prior to that he worked for the European Commission Tax Directorate in Brussels, as well as for KPMG Ireland, the Netherlands and Hong Kong. In his work he has provided tax policy input to multiple governments and advised extensively on cross-border investments and operations in China and other jurisdictions.
Professional and industry experience
Conrad has worked with numerous global private-equity groups and multinational enterprises transacting cross-border into and out of China, on a wide range of tax issues. These include establishment of tax-efficient cross-border operating and investment structures, restructurings and M&A, as well extensive tax work on the liquidation of Lehman Brothers Asian operations. He has extensive experience with advising leading Western and Chinese enterprises in the digital economy space.
Publications and speaking arrangements
Conrad has authored numerous publications for KPMG and has contributed frequently to international tax and finance journals including the International Tax Review, Tax Notes International, BNA Tax Management Transfer Pricing Report, International M&A Review and the Asia-Pacific Journal of Taxation, as well as various IBFD publications.
He is the principal author of the 2017 IBFD book entitled A New Dawn for the International Tax System: Evolution from past to future and what role will China play?. He has also written in numerous other texts, including The Economic Impacts of Intellectual Property-Conditioned Government Incentives, from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the European Commission IP Key (Springer, 2016), as well as the German legal text, Chinesisches Zivil- und Wirtschaftsrecht (Deutscher Fachverlag, 2016).
