The future of supply chain is no longer about optimizing the flow of goods. It is about orchestrating the flow of decisions.

Organizations are navigating an era of compressed decision windows, expanding enterprise interdependencies and continuous disruption. Geopolitical instability, shifting trade policies, climate events and accelerating advances in AI are fundamentally reshaping how supply chains operate. In this environment, traditional approaches to supply chain strategy are no longer sufficient.

Based on a global survey of 1,750 senior transformation leaders across 20 countries and 13 industries, including a dedicated survey of supply chain leaders, Transforming the Enterprise: Supply Chain explores how leading organizations are redefining supply chain as an enterprise capability by redesigning operating models, strengthening digital supply chain capabilities and building the decision intelligence required to scale transformation with confidence.

      Key findings from the research

Supply chain is becoming the enterprise decision engine

AI is already becoming embedded across planning, procurement, manufacturing, logistics and inventory management. As these capabilities mature, the opportunity shifts from automating individual activities to enabling faster, more coordinated enterprise decisions.

      Integration underpins supply chain resilience

As AI becomes increasingly embedded across supply chain functions, integration is failing to keep pace: just 8% of leaders say current levels are sufficient, while one-third have ambitious plans to transform integration with enterprise-wide planning and analysis.

Decision intelligence is emerging as the next source of competitive advantage

As visibility becomes table stakes, competitive advantage increasingly depends on decision intelligence — the ability to evaluate trade-offs, coordinate responses and act — yet most organizations still measure AI by operational performance rather than decision effectiveness.

Technology gains are only as powerful as the operating model behind them

As platform adoption improves cycle times across the supply chain, organizations must evolve governance, decision rights and ways of working to translate intelligence into coordinated enterprise action.

Supply chain has become one of the few functions that touches nearly every part of the enterprise. Its ability to connect information, decisions and execution across the end-to-end system is a critical determinant of enterprise performance.

A leadership agenda for the future of supply chain

The future supply chain will not be built through a single transformation initiative, but through thousands of better decisions — enabled by stronger operating models, richer decision intelligence and more effective orchestration across the enterprise. The opportunity is a supply chain that can continuously anticipate change, adapt and coordinate action at speed.
