In 2022, 196 countries came together in Montreal to agree the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) at CBD COP15. The GBF is an ambitious plan which sets out a pathway to a world living in harmony with nature by 2050. It includes four goals for 2050 and 23 targets for 2030.
This report — Supporting the Global Biodiversity Framework: case studies of business in action — has been published for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) COP17 in October 2026. It aims to help build the business case for action on biodiversity by providing clear, real-life examples of how companies are contributing to all 23 of the GBF’s targets.
It builds on KPMG’s previous report Enabling business contributions to the Global Biodiversity Framework published ahead of the CBD COP16 in 2024. The earlier publication set out the challenges businesses faced in engaging with the GBF, synthesized guidance on the topic, and indicated actions businesses could take in support of the 23 GBF targets.
This report goes a step further, showing that the GBF is not simply a framework for governments, but also an agenda for business resilience. The report is structured and organized around the 23 GBF targets. It is designed for anyone looking to understand how businesses can contribute to achieving the 23 targets of the GBF in a way that creates value for the company as well as positive outcomes for nature.
