Cosmoserve Space is addressing the growing challenge of space debris by providing Deorbit-as-a-Service through a robotic spacecraft capable of capturing unprepared and dead satellites. Cosmoserve’s solution combines biomimetic soft robotic petals, autonomous spacecraft intelligence, and a reusable dual-spacecraft architecture.
The system consists of two spacecraft: Reviver, a robotic servicing vehicle, and Mothercraft, an orbital depot that enables refuelling of the Reviver. After commissioning into base orbit, Reviver performs phased rendezvous using optical sensor suite consisting of cameras and laser-based instruments. Once the target debris enters the capture envelope and the relative velocity between the two spacecraft is nearly zero, the soft robotic petals gently capture the target debris. After capture is achieved, Reviver executes a controlled deorbit to safely dispose of the debris in Earth’s atmosphere.
Upon completion of one mission, Reviver autonomously returns to Mothercraft for refueling and preparation for subsequent missions. This reusable architecture allows a single system to service multiple targets, significantly reducing the cost of debris removal and support long term preservation of Earth’s orbital environment.
