Michael has worked at the interface of technical innovation for more than 25 years and deeply understands the connection between research and business. He has a background in high technology manufacturing and has worked in large and small organisations where technology leadership is critical to their business. Michael spent 13 years in the Semiconductor Industry and successfully started and built a business manufacturing High Power Lasers using technology from Imperial College, London. He has exceptionally well-developed strategy and management experience with outstanding senior operational management and business development skills. In addition to his international industry experience, Michael has worked in the CSIRO and The University of Melbourne where he established funding for the ARC Training Centre in Cognitive Computing for Medical Technologies, using artificial intelligence (AI) applications in data-intensive medical contexts. Michael also developed the IBM University of Melbourne relationship and secured Founding Member access to the IBM Quantum Network, pioneering quantum computing with direct cloud-based access to IBM Quantum systems, to explore potential applications of quantum computing.
