Carl is Head of Data Science at KPMG’s Deal Advisory team. Carl spent 5 years in leadership position with the firm's Lighthouse team, KPMG's Data & Analytics Center of Excellence in the New York and Toronto offices. He combines years of experience in finance and an extended academic experience in pure science and applied data analytics. Carl’s current and past clients include energy trading house, pension funds, and large Canadian and American banks. He focuses on Machine Learning (ML), Advanced Analytics (AA) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Carl has employed analytics to drive business decisions in commodity and financial services companies. He has served as project manager with responsibility for planning, budgeting, execution, and innovation. Carl has developed Data & Analytics and AI solutions in production.

Carl has assisted large banks in the deployment of KPMG’s AI in Control framework to help manage risk associated with AI. He has developed a number of algorithms such as M&A forecasting, default forecasting and energy price forecasting. Carl has also developed algorithms that provide AI insights for portfolio managers.

Carl has a broad technical background. He can be hands-on and lead a team to develop AI algorithms. Carl has the experience in mathematics, statistics, machine learning, analytics and AI to develop practical solutions.

Carl combines solid communication skills and consulting skills necessary to engage with senior executives in the financial industry. He has worked across the three lines of defense at Banks, with the trading desk of energy trading firms and with portfolio managers at financial institutions.

Carl graduated with a B.S in Physics from Stanford University, where he received the Deans’ Award for Academic Accomplishment. He then completed a PhD in chemical physics at Harvard University as a Karplus Fellow. Carl also spent a year at École Normale Supérieure in Paris working under the supervision of the Physics Nobel Laureate Claude Cohen-Tannoudji. Carl has authored 19 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
