Investing in the Americas: The Powerhouses
The United States of America is the largest and most important export market for German companies and is now Germany's largest and most important trading partner. If there are disruptions in bilateral trade, the effects are clearly felt here in Germany. Both a direct trade conflict between the EU and the USA and new punitive tariffs between China and the USA in the wake of the new elections in the United States in November 2024 could hit the German economy hard and lead to (further) economic downturns.
The United States is also the leading source of non-European foreign investment in Germany. Germany is also one of the most important investor countries for the USA. In particular, lower energy costs, tax breaks and extensive subsidy programs such as the Inflation Reduction Act are attracting German companies to the United States.
However, the USA is not synonymous with America. The South American region also offers a wide range of economic opportunities, even though this region is characterized by risks for German companies. The example of Venezuela, for example, shows how political crises can have a massive impact on the economic well-being of a country and thwart investment efforts. On the other hand, South America also offers promising markets: Brazil, Latin America's largest economy and the fifth largest country in the world, is Germany's largest trading partner and the most important target country for investments in the southern hemisphere and offers German companies a wide range of opportunities. The German Desk in Brazil supports German companies in Brazil and Brazilian companies that want to invest in Germany, supported by bilingual experts and customized services from KPMG.
Bilateral partnerships and foreign investments can also help to reduce geopolitical and climate change-related risks. We support you with the challenges posed by climate change, protection against cybercrime, risk management and the enhancement of innovation capability.
