KPMG responds to the National Infrastructure Commission's report on the electricity distribution networks

Simon Virley CB, Vice Chair and Head of Energy and Natural Resources at KPMG UK, comments on the report

Responding to the publication of the National Infrastructure Commission’s report on the electricity distribution networks, Simon Virley CB, Vice Chair and Head of Energy and Natural Resources at KPMG UK, said:

“The National Infrastructure Commission report provides a strong endorsement for more strategic planning of the distribution networks, allowing more anticipatory investment by the Distribution Network Operators to create the capacity to cope with the rising demand that will come with the electrification of transport, heat and industry. This is similar to the changes already underway at transmission level. The key now is to see how Ofgem incorporate these recommendations into the regulatory framework for the next round of price controls (ED3), acknowledging the distinct challenges faced by distribution networks. Managing the need for greater investment alongside further upward pressure on energy bills, at a time when bills are already rising, is going to be the critical balancing act of the next few years.”
