KPMG UK has appointed longstanding Partner Peter Rothwell as its next Head of Banking. Peter will officially start the role on 1st April 2023 as the current UK Head of Banking, Paula Smith, retires after ten years with the firm.
Peter is currently a Partner in KPMG’s risk consulting team having joined in 2007 after a long career in industry. Peter actively supports the firms diversity ambition through his sponsorship of KPMG’s RaiseYou programme, an initiative aimed at increasing female representation in FS consulting.
Peter Rothwell, incoming Head of Banking at KPMG UK adds: “I take on this role at a crucial time for the banking industry as regulators, customers and global markets all look to banks to provide stability through some significant macroeconomic uncertainties. Whilst our work to support banks is hugely varied, and often highly specialised, there’s one driving principle that I want to instil – how do we help banks to work better for the benefit of all? I’m excited about this next chapter in my career and I am privileged to lead such a talented team.”
Karim Haji, EMA and UK head of financial services at KPMG, said: “We have an enormous wealth of talent in this firm, but Peter combines exceptional technical expertise, credibility and diplomacy. I’m delighted to have him as part of our leadership team.
“Paula certainly leaves big boots to fill. In her four years in the role, Paula has grown the banking practice and been a champion for diversity. We thank her for her immense contribution and congratulate Peter on his appointment.”
