The three-year charity partnership will see the two organisations working together to make sure good food goes to people, not waste.
A firmwide vote took place in April this year, with the firm’s people choosing to tackle the issues of food waste and hunger. This follows a very successful three-year charity partnership with end-of-life charity, Marie Curie, which concluded on 30 September 2024.
KPMG UK’s 18,000 people will provide £2million worth of support to FareShare through fundraising, volunteering, pro bono and thought leadership contributions.
Established as an independent charity in 2004, FareShare is the largest charity of its kind fighting hunger and food waste in the UK. It saves food which would otherwise go to waste by redistributing it to local communities through a network of 35 regional centres.
Working to support charities and community groups, FareShare turns surplus food into parcels and meals to feed over 1 million people, while also offering holistic support services to address the causes of food poverty. For every £1 raised by KPMG, FareShare will be able to redistribute the equivalent of five meals to a person in need.
Jon Holt, Group Chief Executive and UK Senior Partner KPMG, visited FareShare’s Midlands regional distribution centre in Birmingham. Commenting on the visit and the launch of the new charity partnership, he said:
“With one in six people across the UK going hungry, including as many as three million children, it’s not right that 10 billion perfectly good meals go to waste each year.
“I was really impressed by the scale of FareShare's operation in Birmingham and its mission to provide more than just a meal service. By addressing unemployment, homelessness, and mental health – all of which are closely linked to hunger – FareShare is creating a ripple effect that will have a significant impact on people's lives.
“Our people across the UK are truly passionate about supporting their local communities. I’m looking forward to working with FareShare over the next three years, to combine our resources and expertise in the fight against food insecurity, food waste and hunger.”
