KPMG colleagues step up for charity partner Marie Curie, raising over £222,000

KPMG colleagues across the UK took part in ‘Big Walks’ during June and July, raising over £222,000 for Marie Curie.

KPMG colleagues across the UK took part in ‘Big Walks’ during June and July.

More than 3,300 colleagues participated in the series of 10km or 20km walks at eight locations across the country, from Aberdeen and Falkirk to Newcastle, London, and Bath. Colleagues ended up walking over 41,000 kilometers in total – more than the Earth’s circumference.

The professional services firm surpassed the initial aim of raising £150,000, with the £220,000 raised helping Marie Curie deliver 11,100 hours of expert nursing care.

Marie Curie was announced as KPMG UK’s national charity partner in November 2021, as voted on by the firm’s colleagues. Towards the end of 2023, the firm is hoping to raise over £1m for the charity, helping provide care and support for people with a terminal illness and their loved ones.

Rachel Hopcroft, Head of Corporate Affairs at KPMG in the UK, said:

“With our Big Walks raising an incredible £222,000 for Marie Curie, our people have clearly stepped up in support of KPMG’s national charity partner.

“Our fundraising plays a vital role in supporting Marie Curie with their mission to ensure that everyone with a terminal illness, no matter who they are or where they live, has the care and support they need. Our Big Walks were a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with colleagues, whilst raising vital funds for a cause close to all our hearts.”

Matthew Reed, Chief Executive at Marie Curie, said:

“We are so proud of our partnership with KPMG and all it has achieved so far. We knew the Big Walks would be our biggest fundraising activity together, but I am absolutely delighted that we have far exceeded our target of £150,000. I want to say a huge thank you on behalf of the thousands of families who will receive the care and support they need thanks to the generosity of everyone at KPMG and their friends and families.”
