KPMG LAW SET TO DOUBLE IN SIZE AS PART OF UK GROWTH DRIVE

KPMG Law, part of the professional services firm KPMG, is set to double in size over the next three years as it commits to invest in growing its legal services offering.

KPMG Law will look to take on a further 220 lawyers by the end of 2024. The new hires will comprise 45 partners and directors and see the total number of practicing solicitors increase to over 400.

The expansion plans are a critical element of KPMG UK’s £300m growth strategy, driven by Chief Executive Jon Holt, to support the long-term growth and fundamental transformation of its UK business.

The commitment to invest in KPMG Law recognises the demand for quality, integrated legal services from the firm’s client base and the importance of the UK market to KPMG Global Legal Services’ growth strategy. The UK is the second largest market for legal services in the world.

Established in 2014, KPMG Law is integrated within the wider UK firm alongside the tax, consultancy and deal advisory practices and is represented throughout the country’s major legal centres. The UK firm has aligned its law business around solution groups in; Corporate Deals and Structuring, Financial Services, Commercial Technology and Data, Workforce, Tax Disputes, Family Office and Private Client Legal, Company Secretarial, Global Entity Management, Legal Operations and Managed Legal Services.

Earlier this year, the firm announced four partner promotions within its practice, including Kennedy Masterton-Smith and Tanvir Dhanoa in London, Paul Kelly in Manchester and Ed Bartlett in Leeds. The promotions took KPMG Law’s partner and director headcount to over 30 senior lawyers, with 50:50 gender representation across that leadership group. The practice is networked with KPMG’s global legal services capability with over 3,000 lawyers across 80 jurisdictions.

Stuart Fuller, Head of Global Legal Services at KPMG, said: “It’s an exciting time for our Global Legal Services business as we create a different type of law offering. We’re delivering integrated legal services with high performing lawyers supporting businesses across their geographic footprint. Few can match such reach. We look forward to realising our growth ambition and potential in the UK, which is fundamental to our global legal services business.”

Nick Roome, Head of KPMG Law in the UK, said: “The UK legal services market is growing and evolving rapidly. Technology is disrupting the market and clients are changing the way they buy legal services. As business leaders, in-house counsel and high net worth individuals face a myriad of complex issues, there is a real drive towards quality counsel that’s empowered by cutting-edge technology and is thoroughly integrated with other advisory services. This connected approach is a key principle that has shaped our vision for KPMG Law and has made our practice a critical element of KPMG’s future growth strategy.

“We’ve built an incredible team of real specialists and experts in their respective fields. We’re now focused on adding further depth and scale to our core offering and sector expertise, while also exploring new growth areas. We’re focused on growing with the right culture. For us, that means building a diverse team of commercial, entrepreneurial and gifted technicians. In return, we’re offering an exciting opportunity to work across borders and business areas, with enabling technology and the license to innovate.”
