      Stuart is a Partner in KPMG UK’s Governance Risk and Compliance Services practice with over 35 years of experience gained in the UK, US and Asia, supporting clients and boards with their governance, risk and control design and assurance requirements.

      While Stuart’s career started in the engineering industry, his focus for over 25 years has been financial services, where he has worked with some of the largest global banking, insurance and investment management businesses. Latterly, Stuart’s focus has been on working with investment businesses – including a role as the outsourced Chief Audit Executive for the largest listed alternative asset manager. Through this and other outsourced internal audit delivery roles, Stuart has a great deal of experience of supporting executive and non-executive directors in their governance roles.

      In addition to assurance delivery projects, Stuart has led several significant governance consulting engagements, including evaluations of internal audit functions for global financial services groups, and assurance mapping and design engagements across the second and third lines of defence.

      Before joining KPMG, Stuart was an Internal Audit Director for Prudential plc. His area of responsibility was Group Services, Treasury and Investment advisor audit teams. He also led all global reviews for the group and was responsible for methodology development. Prior to Prudential, Stuart ran a project for Royal Bank of Scotland’s Internal Audit team where he developed the methodology for management awareness rating and culture considerations.

      Stuart started his career at a predecessor firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) – Coopers & Lybrand – where he specalised in financial services and retail governance risk and compliance engagements. As a partner at PwC, Stuart led the investments internal audit business with projects that included the control reports for a global banking organisation’s Trust and Custody business.

      While at PwC, Stuart also led a number of large projects, including a multi-site engagement with over 200 team members and a global project supporting the implementation of a regulatory change.
