Karmjit Mader is a Tax Disputes Partner within KPMG’s Family Office & Private Client team.
Karmjit has over 20 years of experience supporting private clients, partnerships, mid-sized businesses and large corporates in managing contentious HMRC matters. This includes supporting clients under HMRC enquiry, resolving historic tax matters, and assisting clients under Code of Practice 9 enquiries (suspected tax fraud). In recent years, Karmjit has developed a particular specialism in advising clients with complex cross-border tax affairs.
She has deep expertise in HMRC’s civil tax administration powers and compliance guidelines, ensuring that all HMRC matters are conducted within statutory rules and that taxpayers are treated fairly. Karmjit is a strong advocate for holding HMRC to its own dispute resolution guidance and standards and is known for delivering innovative solutions to challenging HMRC matters, often where matters have reached an impasse.
Karmjit is CTA qualified and an accredited mediator, enabling her to facilitate resolutions in complex negotiations or deadlocked HMRC disputes. She is recognised for her collaborative approach, working closely with clients and their other advisors to formulate clear, effective strategies for all HMRC interactions. She is a regular contributor to external industry articles and thought leadership on tax dispute matters.
