Romania is losing not only population, but also future workforce potential: its population has declined by more than 1 million over the past decade. Moreover, rapid population ageing is putting increasing pressure on economic competitiveness and social sustainability. Furthermore, the migration of skilled people from the active segment of the population is leaving Romania without one of its most valuable resources: 70% of those who leave are between 15 and 44 years old, and with them go the essential skills needed to support the country’s economic future. And the discussion about demographics can no longer be separated from the discussion about the future of work: you can have technology, you can have good ideas, you can have flexible organizational models, but if you no longer have people to put them into practice, all of these remain only theory.
