150 years of service

For more than 150 years, when society has looked to organizations for help to restore fragile belief or to enable progress, professionals from KPMG’s founding firms have stepped forward. They didn’t just observe history, they helped to shape it, becoming synonymous with a pioneering spirit, bold leadership and doing the right thing. That’s a legacy KPMG firms all share and continue to draw inspiration from in our work today.

The KPMG network was formed in 1987 when Peat Marwick International and Klynveld Main Goerdeler merged along with their respective member firms.

Principal founding members

There were four key figures in the formation of KPMG. They are the founding members of the present organization.

Klynveld
Piet Klynveld founded the accounting firm Klynveld Kraayenhof & Co in Amsterdam in 1917.

Peat
William Barclay Peat founded the accounting firm Peat & Co in London.

Marwick
James Marwick established the accounting firm Marwick, Mitchell & Co in New York City in 1897.

Goerdeler

Dr. Reinhard Goerdeler was the first President of the International Federation of Accountants and Chairman of Klynveld Main Goerdeler (KMG). He is recognized for his contribution to laying the foundations of the Klynveld Main Goerdeler merger.

KPMG in Romania

A KPMG firm was established in Romania in 1995, bringing to the local market the services required by clients. As the business environment transforms in response to new economic challenges, KPMG evolves as well, and we strive to maintain our commitment to delivering consistently high-quality services.

KPMG in Romania is one of the leading professional services providers on the Romanian market, and our high standards and values are widely recognized. We operate from our headquarters in Bucharest, as well as from five other cities – Iași, Constanța, Timișoara, Cluj-Napoca, and Chișinău (Republic of Moldova).
