Being responsible for a sustainable future is a key concern for KPMG. For this purpose, we have developed Our Impact Plan – the name of KPMG International’s global sustainability strategy, which describes how we embody corporate responsibility. In the four action areas Planet, People, Prosperity and Governance, we have made concrete commitments for our contribution to sustainable development in society.

Our values form the basis for our actions and our responsibility as a company. The value “For Better. We do what really counts” from our canon of values requires us to align economic success with social and environmental aspects. This is reinforced by our commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The stated goal of the 17 SDGs is to ensure sustainable development at an economic, social and environmental level worldwide by 2030. All of this together forms the basis for KPMG in Germany’s sustainability plan.

To understand the key topics that are relevant not only to our business, but also to our stakeholders, we are continuously conducting a materiality analysis. The basis for this is a comprehensive analysis that was carried out in 2020 on behalf of KPMG International by an independent foundation in seven of our largest markets, including Germany. The perspectives of Board of Management members, external stakeholders and the informed public were analysed.

Findings from the Global People Survey and from employee surveys in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic were also included. The results were supplemented by material business risks from our Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). This international analysis was carefully validated with a focus on Germany and adjusted or supplemented accordingly.

Once again this year, we have updated the materiality analysis to align it with the needs of our stakeholders. To do this, we obtained information from internal and external stakeholders using a combination of formal and informal surveys:
