KPMG New Zealand’s purpose is to fuel the prosperity of Aotearoa New Zealand for the benefit of all New Zealanders – Titokona tō tātou tōnuitanga, mō Aotearoa, mō Tātou.

We recognise that how our country responds and adapts to the challenges and opportunities that climate change presents, and how every entity in Aotearoa New Zealand reacts will shape our future and the outcomes every New Zealander experiences.

During October 2024 the XRB issued and completed a consultation, noting amendments will need to be published by December 2024 to apply for financial years commencing on or after 1 January 2024. The proposals were to:

      • extend the adoption provisions on disclosing Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions (and associated comparative disclosures and trend analysis)
      • extend the adoption provisions for disclosing anticipated financial impacts and transition planning
      • add an adoption provision for the assurance of Scope 3 emissions for periods ending before 31 December 2025.

We have welcomed the opportunity to provide our response to the exposure drafts of Amendments to Adoption of Aotearoa New Zealand Climate Standards 2024 and Amendments to Assurance Engagements over Greenhouse Gas Emissions Disclosures 2024 (the Exposure Drafts).
