Te Matatini is the national organisation responsible for fostering, supporting and growing kapa haka excellence. In addition to the national Te Matatini performing arts competition held every two years, regional competitions and the development of kapa haka ki te kainga also support the growth of kapa haka across New Zealand and Australia.

This year, thirteen regional competitions will take place in 2026 ahead of the 2027 national Te Matatini competition. Te Matatini is working with KPMG New Zealand to survey attendees of each rohe event to understand what kapa haka means to them, and the contribution rohe kapa haka brings to the cultural, social and economic wellbeing of communities and individuals.

If you’re heading to any of the regional competitions, come along for a kōrero and complete a survey about how the Te Matatini regional competitions benefit your whānau, hapū and iwi. Look out for the black and white arrows pointing to our stall at the competition!
