GHG Emissions Baseline Training
This course will provide participants with an introductory knowledge on the technical accounting requirements of measuring and reporting an organisation’s GHG emissions under the GHG Protocol Standards.
These standards include the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard, The GHG Protocol Scope 2 Guidance and The GHG Protocol Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Accounting and Reporting Standard.
Course structure:
The course will be delivered across 4 modules of 3 hours each (including breaks).
- Module 1: 7 November – 9am-12pm
- Module 2: 12 November – 9am-12pm
- Module 3: 13 November – 9am-12pm
- Module 4: 20 November – 9am to 12pm
CPD – 11 hours.
Key concepts you’ll learn:
- GHG accounting principles
- Setting organisational boundaries of an organisation
- Setting operational boundaries of an organisation
- Identifying Scope 1 and Scope 2 emission sources
- The benefits of completing a Scope 3 inventory
- Identifying and categorising your organisation’s Scope 3 emissions
- Calculation of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions and the type of data you will need
- Tracking emissions over time, establishing a base year and understanding situations that would require recalculations of base year emissions
- Reporting emissions under the GHG Protocol Standards
- High level comparison between reporting under GHG Protocol vs ISO standard
Who should attend:
Anyone interested in or involved with the measurement and reporting of an organisation’s GHG emissions. These would include those within an organisation’s finance or sustainability reporting teams, investors, auditors and directors wanting to understand the mechanics and data sources of GHG emissions accounting.

GHG Financed Emissions Training
This course will provide participants with an introductory knowledge on the technical accounting requirements of measuring and reporting financed emissions from an organisation’s investing and lending activities under the globally recognised methodologies outlined by the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF) standards.
This course is relevant for organisations that are investors or operate in the financial services sector.
Pre-requisites
This training is an extension of the GHG Emissions Baseline training series. Participants are expected to have knowledge of the measurement and reporting requirements of GHG emissions under the GHG Protocol Standards.
Course structure:
The course is instructor-led and delivered virtually, using a mix of presentation, case studies and exercises
The course will be delivered across 2 modules of 3 hours each (including breaks).
- Module 1: 21 November – 9am to 12pm
- Module 2: 26 November – 9am to 12pm
CPD – 5.5 hours.
Key concepts you’ll learn:
- The drivers for measuring financed emissions
- The approach to calculating financed emissions
- The methodologies for calculating financed emissions for all asset classes outlined in the PCAF Part A standard
- The reporting requirements outlined under the PCAF Part A standard
- A high level comparison of reporting emissions from investing and financing activities between the PCAF Part A standard and the GHG Protocol Corporate Value Chain Standard.
Who should attend:
Anyone interested in or involved with the measurement and reporting of an organisation’s GHG financed emissions. These would include those within an organisation’s finance or sustainability reporting teams, investors, lenders, auditors and directors wanting to understand the mechanics and data sources of GHG financed emissions accounting.

Melinda Ponnampalam
Melinda leads KPMG New Zealand's GHG Accounting Advisory Services team.
She provides technical subject matter expertise in the various components of GHG emissions accounting to our clients, including measurement and reporting of value chain emissions, financed emissions and insurance-associated emissions.
Melinda was instrumental in the development and delivery, both locally and internationally, of the firm's internal GHG Emissions Accounting, Financed Emissions and Insurance-associated Emissions accounting training series.
Melinda has over 18 years’ experience in providing audit and advisory services, including risk, regulatory, accounting and financial statement reporting and disclosures across various sectors.
