Hon David Seymour, Associate Minister of Education, has shared key goals for the reintroduction of the charter schools’ model to our education system in the hope of maximising student achievement for all.

Charter schools are not necessarily new to New Zealand, but the Government must carefully consider the complications that can arise from designing and managing change in complex systems. Lessons learned from the past, and internationally, indicate that large-scale structural change in and of itself rarely delivers the promised gains in academic performance.

Implementing charter schools in New Zealand looks at how alternative models of education could assist students who thrive under tailored learning environments, improving equity outcomes for New Zealand’s rich and diverse population. It provides the key considerations that must be made to ensure the necessary mitigations are put in place to support the delivery of Minister Seymour’s intended outcomes.
