Responsible millennials will impact future markets
Responsible millennials will impact future markets
Investors are showing growing interest in the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of the companies they invest in. The so-called millennials (born between 1980 and 2000) are emerging as decision makers and their interest in responsible investments will shape the future markets.
A new KPMG insight report describes the trends towards responsible investment. Issues like modern slavery, financial climate risk, energy transition, responsible tax practices and impact investment were not part of investors' vocabulary just a few years ago, but are commonly discussed today.
Some of the main findings in the KPMG report includes:
- The total market of sustainable investment that is professionally managed is now estimated to $30tn
- 81% of the millennials would like to know more about responsible investment
- The millennials are twice as likely as older generations to want their pension to be invested responsibly
Businesses should prepare and work strategically with responsibility and sustainability in mind and adjust the way they present ESG performance to investors.
