KPMG in Latvia has implemented a pilot project to develop an innovative AI-based solution – a virtual legal assistant for the legal team of airBaltic that will help optimise contract management.

Seeking to release lawyers from manual reviews and comparisons of voluminous legal documents, the new solution enables them to ask questions in an application and receive prompt replies from the virtual assistant based on selected legal documents of airBaltic. Users are also presented with fragments of the relevant document where the answer is found. The virtual assistant was created in the Microsoft Azure cloud-based environment using best practices of the data science.

“We are pleased that we could help the legal team of airBaltic implement in their daily routine effective tools based on the latest AI technologies that help them save the most valuable resource they have – time. At the same time, this pilot project helps the company understand what other solutions are required to streamline the work process using AI in the future,” says Edvīns Elferts, Senior Manager at KPMG Lighthouse, the Center of Excellence for Data, AI & Emerging Technologies in Latvia.

“We were delighted at the opportunity to work with KPMG to develop an innovative virtual legal assistant for our legal team. This tool is a good start in optimisation of contract management processes, which also makes it possible for our lawyers to begin testing their ideas on various legal matters that arise from contracts. This AI-based technology is a step forward for airBaltic to a more efficient use of time and resources in the future. We are grateful for the pilot project which brings novelties to our company and will contribute to work efficiency and simplify our work processes” says Imants Jansons, Senior Vice President, Legal Department of airBaltic.
