      Our Purpose & Values

At KPMG, we inspire confidence and empower change in all we do making KPMG and the world a better place.

      Our History

Samjong KPMG continues to grow alongside its clients as a trusted business partner supporting their success.

In the late 1960s, as foreign banks began establishing operations in Korea, demand emerged for global accounting firms. In January 1969, PMM became the first global accounting firm to open an office in Seoul. The PMM Seoul office subsequently played a crucial role in helping Korean companies attract foreign capital investment.

In the 1980s, responding to the government's enactment of the External Audit Law and the trend toward larger accounting firms, the Seoul office transitioned in 1982 by establishing Dongyoung Accounting Firm as an affiliated entity. In 1985, the merger of Sangyoung Accounting Firm and Dongyoung Accounting Firm created Sandong Accounting Firm, while internationally, PMI and KMG merged in 1987 to form KPMG.

During the financial crisis of the late 1990s, SanTong KPMG played a pivotal role in overcoming the IMF crisis by reviewing normalization plans and conducting management diagnostics for more than 30 banks and financial institutions. The firm also contributed significantly to modernizing Korea's financial industry by implementing the country's first Credit Risk Management system.

In November 2000, Samjong KPMG era began through a membership agreement between KPMG and Samjong Accounting Firm. During the credit card crisis of the early 2000s, Samjong KPMG played a crucial role in stabilizing the financial industry by conducting asset diligence, valuations, restructuring initiatives, and developing management normalization plans.

In the late 2000s, the firm demonstrated leadership in advancing accounting standards through proactive preparation and implementation support for internal accounting management systems and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), significantly contributing to the development of Korean companies and capital markets.

Since CEO Kim Kyo Tae's appointment in 2011, Samjong KPMG has pursued a strategic vision centered on 'healthy growth,' 'happy workplace,' and 'trusted organization,' achieving remarkable qualitative and quantitative progress. The firm has maintained impressive double-digit annual growth since 2011, surpassing the ambitious targets set in its 'Vision 2020' initiative. Samjong KPMG has brought its 'People First' philosophy to life through numerous achievements, including recruiting the highest number of new CPAs for 10 consecutive years, creating innovative smart office environments, and pioneering new work methodologies.

The firm has consistently demonstrated its commitment to addressing emerging business challenges and opportunities by establishing specialized centers: the North Korea Business Support Center (2014), the industry's first Audit Committee Institute (ACI) (2015), the Startup Innovation Center (SIC) (2016), 'Paran Happiness', the industry's first subsidiary-type standard workplace for people with disabilities (2018), and the M&A Center (2021). Additionally, Samjong KPMG expanded its pioneering Sustainable Growth Management Division into a comprehensive ESG Business Group. In 2023, the firm launched the industry's first AI Center, further solidifying its position as a trusted organization that rapidly adapts to evolving business landscapes while delivering exceptional value to clients and society.
