During 2025, nearly 75,000 posted workers were registered, which represents an increase of 6,300 individuals compared to the statistics from 2024. Germany, Poland, and Lithuania are the leading posted countries with around 10 000 posted workers each, and the dominant sectors are the construction and manufacturing industries, which account for approximately 55,000 of the 75,000 posted workers in 2025.

Stockholm County, Norrbotten County, and Västra Götaland County continue to rank among the top receiving regions. The city of Boden stands out with a significant increase, having grown from around 2,300 posted workers in 2024 to about 8,800 in 2025 – an increase of 6,500 posted workers.

      KPMG:s kommentar

Although the statistics show that more posted workers are registered with the Swedish Work Environment Authority, we often meet companies that face challenges with the reporting - when, whom and how to report, especially for business travelers, but also about the practical handling of the working conditions that need to be met. Although the registration itself is an obligation, it is important to note that the registration has a clear purpose to ensure that the working conditions for posted workers comply with Act (1999:678) of Posting of Workers.

Also, important to note for the recipient of the work in Sweden, is that they have a responsibility to verify that the posted worker is registered. If the recipient does not receive documentation from the employer that this has been done at the latest on the day the work in Sweden starts, the recipient of the work is obliged to report that to the Swedish Work Environment Authority no later than three days after the start of the work in Sweden.

As previously reported by KPMG, in February this year, the Swedish Work Environment Authority was tasked with analyzing the current shortcomings in the system and proposing suggestions to enhance data quality and accessibility. To carry out this assignment, the Swedish Work Environment Authority will be supported by the Swedish Tax Agency, the Social Insurance Agency, the Migration Agency, the Police Authority, and Statistics Sweden. The goal is to increase transparency, improve compliance with the regulations, and facilitate companies and authorities in managing issues related to posted work. The assignment will be reported to the Government on November 16, 2026.

KPMG will be monitoring the developments and below you can read more about previously shared articles on the subject and the full report from Swedish Work Environment Authority.
