When Embla Lindau was studying law at Lund University, she had the impression that KPMG was a large, formal and rather stiff firm. A perception that changed when she met the consultants that recruited her. Today, a few years into her career in Tax & Legal, she actively promotes KPMG to help attract new students to the company.
The KPMG family
– I work at the Malmö office, and although we are about 200 people here, the office still feels personal. I know most of the people – and everyone on the Tax & Legal team. We have a hybrid way of working, which allows for flexibility in our workdays, but most of us still prefer being in the office.
Freedom to grow
– Another thing I find truly amazing about my job is the freedom and responsibility I have in my projects. I’m often presented with a problem or challenge to solve. Throughout the process, I have colleagues who offer support, guidance and review my work, which helps me grow and ensures a high-quality delivery to our clients.
A common misconception
– A common misconception about tax professionals is that we’re focused on minimizing taxes for companies. In reality, our role is to guide them in making correct and ethical decisions. Our job is to provide expert advice based on applicable laws and regulations. An honest and transparent dialogue is key when delivering advice to our clients.
Next step
– From the get-go I’ve been learning new things at a rapid pace. My next step is about gaining experience and mastering skills that simply can’t be learned from books or taught in school - knowledge that only comes from hands-on work. It’s a big step, and I just can’t wait.
