Corporate citizenship

Corporate Citizenship

We believe together and as individuals we can inspire confidence through our actions, working to lift people beyond poverty to ensure economic growth is balanced with the need to sustain our environment. That’s why you will be joining an organization that uses the commitment and dedication of its 162,000 people to help build the capability of governments, aid agencies, civil society and businesses to address some of the world’s biggest challenges and realize positive change.

Commitment to corporate citizenship

Working collectively with clients, civil society and the UN, our organization works to find solutions to pressing global issues of poverty, environmental sustainability, education and equality. Over the last year, we have continued our engagement and support for the UN Global Compact (UNGC), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP).

Environmental sustainability

We are committed to reducing our impact on the environment, addressing environmental challenges and advancing sustainability. This includes setting and achieving ambitious emission reduction targets through our Global Green Initiative. In 2010, we sought to reduce our combined greenhouse gas emissions by 25 percent per FTE. After achieving our goal, we then set a new target: a further 15 percent reduction by 2015. As of 2013, we’ve achieved a 10 percent reduction.

Empowering future business leaders

For more than 13 years, KPMG member firms have actively supported Enactus, an international non-profit organization that mobilizes students from around the world, enabling them to make a difference in their communities. Through active mentoring programs, Enactus helps the next generation of socially responsible business leaders fulfill their potential and empower these ambitious young leaders to bring their innovative ideas to market, benefiting their communities and achieving social progress.

Promoting inclusive development

Helping to ensure all people benefit from economic and social development is fundamental to our work. One example is our support of the Millennium Villages Project, and the village of Kiuyu, Tanzania, which for the past five years has helped to reduce infant mortality rates, provide electricity, enable education and create healthcare facilities. In 2014, we raised over US$1.1 million to support those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. We channeled these funds through the International Federation of the Red Cross and Oxfam to restore, strengthen and protect the livelihoods of the impacted families.
