India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation by 2047 will depend not only on the scale of its ambitions, but also on how effectively it responds to global shifts, builds capabilities at scale, and ensures accountability in delivering outcomes, according to a new KPMG in India thought leadership report titled “Agrasar Bharat: Turning India’s Aspirations into Action.” The report identifies Agility, Ability and Accountability (AAA) as the three defining imperatives that can help India navigate geopolitical shifts, technological disruption and evolving citizen expectations on its journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.

The report was released at Agrasar Bharat Manch, a KPMG in India Public Sector Excellence (PSX) initiative, by G Kishan Reddy, Honourable Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Government of India in the presence of other eminent dignitaries from government, industry and academia.

The report highlights that as geopolitics, technology and citizen expectations continue to evolve, India must focus on translating the strong foundations built over the past decade in infrastructure, digital public infrastructure, financial inclusion, manufacturing and public investment into long-term competitiveness, resilience, innovation and opportunity.

      Key highlights of the report:

      • Identifies Agility, Ability and Accountability as the three core elements necessary for sustained national progress
      • Emphasises the role of capital-driven growth, technology-driven processes and people-driven institutions as key engines of transformation
      • Calls for stronger capabilities in strategic sectors such as AI, semiconductors, renewable energy, defence manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and food processing
      • Underlines the importance of outcome-led governance, accountable AI deployment, citizen-centric institutions and stronger public-private collaboration
      • Recommends five principles for the road ahead: keeping the destination fixed while remaining adaptable, building capabilities ahead of demand, measuring meaningful outcomes, governing technology responsibly and fostering collective action

The report comes at a time when India is navigating rapid technological advancements, global economic realignments and growing expectations for inclusive, sustainable growth. It argues that long-term success will depend as much on institutional effectiveness and capability creation as on economic expansion.

In his address to the event, Nitin Gadkari, Honourable Union Minster for Road, Transport and Highways, Government of India said 'Agrasar Bharat Manch' is a compelling idea for showcasing our aspirations and determination to move forward by advancing priorities, innovation, sustained commitment and close collaboration between industry, academia and other stakeholders.

Yezdi Nagporewalla, Chief Executive Officer, KPMG in India, said, “India stands at an important inflection point. Our long-term success will depend on how effectively we translate our strengths into greater productivity, stronger capabilities and globally competitive enterprises. Guided by Agility, Ability and Accountability, India has the opportunity to turn aspiration into enduring advantage. Agrasar Bharat, a KPMG in India initiative, explores the choices that can help shape that journey.”

Nilachal Mishra, Partner and Head, Government & Public Services (G&PS), KPMG in India, said, “The journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047 requires more than ambition. It calls for execution excellence, institutional capacity and a relentless focus on measurable outcomes. Agrasar Bharat outlines a framework that can help align policy, capital, technology and people towards a common development agenda. By embedding agility, building capabilities at scale and strengthening accountability, India can accelerate progress while ensuring that growth remains inclusive, resilient and sustainable. The interaction of these three principles will determine how effectively India converts aspiration into achievement, investment into value, and growth into broad-based impact.”

As India charts its course towards becoming a developed economy by 2047, the report argues that sustained progress will require coordinated action across government, industry and society. By strengthening capabilities, embracing innovation and embedding accountability in decision-making, India can convert its demographic and economic strengths into long-term prosperity and global leadership.
