“Technology enables everything we do. At KPMG, we are now a digital business and, as a result, our growth and trust agenda rely on us continuing to transform with technology. By driving innovation and transforming across our value chain, we can enhance the experience for colleagues and clients.”

KPMG professionals use leading technology to help deliver sustainable and effective change, enabling organizations of all sizes to become higher performing and more resilient and secure, ultimately enhancing value for clients.

Building a workplace for the future

Ways of working are constantly evolving, and we’re building a workplace for the future by creating a consumer-grade digital experience for our more than 265,000 KPMG professionals across the global organization. Elevating to the cloud

We continue to evolve our digital platform — enabled by Microsoft Azure — to create a globally consistent and secure technology environment for our people and clients. This gives KPMG firms more autonomy and flexibility to build, run, and deploy their own technology solutions in the cloud. Our hybrid and flexible model allows us to implement our digital solutions in the major cloud environments, regardless of clients’ cloud vendors, and is therefore available to all clients across the globe. With all KPMG firms now on one platform, we have made it easier to share technology solutions and intellectual property, meaning they can grow at pace and with ease.

“To create lasting change and business value, transformation calls for dynamic operating models that evolve and adapt with your business. By finding the right partners and establishing effective communication and data sharing, companies can extend their growth into new markets.”

Closing the digital transformation gap

We see a significant gap arising between the demand for digital solutions and applications and the talent within organizations currently able to meet that demand.

The KPMG Citizen Developer Program is the next step in our own digital evolution. The goal is simple: to give our people more autonomy and responsibility to create technology solutions while empowering them with the right tools, the proper guardrails, and the support they need to bring them to life — building a thriving community of like-minded colleagues across the global organization.

Creating value through strategic alliances

Our digital transformation solutions leverage leading cloud-based platforms and applications. We’ve strengthened our ecosystem of strategic alliances that we work shoulder-to-shoulder with to address clients’ toughest business challenges. Driving our development roadmap for our Connected. Powered. Trusted. Elevate offerings, we continue to build on our people’s capabilities and specialties.

Today, KPMG has more than 26 global or multi-firm strategic alliances. As needs evolve, we will continue to expand our portfolio with increased focus on orchestrating ecosystems around emerging themes such as ESG, cyber, regulatory technology and more. In addition, KPMG firms have formed local alliances and collaborations with more than 100 technology companies, including start-ups, engineering companies and academic institutions.

Factors including rising inflation, the COVID-19 pandemic, the energy transition and supply chain shortage continue to accelerate business model and process transformation. Our alliances enable KPMG professionals to provide leading solutions, capabilities and trusted technology to help clients unlock new opportunities for growth and transform their businesses into digital, data-driven, scalable enterprises.

Our focus on strategic alliances helps ensure we’re meeting the evolving needs of our clients. Helping to drive the future of public transit with open data

When the UK Department of Transport wanted to tap into the unrealized potential of England's bus services by providing passengers with information on services, fares and real-time locations, it turned to KPMG in the UK for help.

In the first project of its kind in the UK, KPMG in the UK, with its subcontractor ITO World Ltd., developed a national unified open data platform for England’s bus network, Bus Open Data Services (BODS).

BODS pulls together data from more than 400 bus operators so transit users can view timetables, fares and bus location data in one place.

KPMG professionals led the delivery of the entire project — from design and testing to deployment and implementation — all while meeting strict UK government digital service standards and adhering to legislative and regulatory requirements.

BODS improves bus users’ travel information by providing data for journey planning software providers, innovators and town planners, leading to innovations within the digital transport sector. The platform could enable mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) journey planning, allowing improved modelling across different types of public transport. Also, the insights generated from the data can help policymakers determine how to increase public transport use and reduce carbon emissions.

Helping Māori businesses thrive through digital transformation

Since 2020, the New Zealand government has focused on achieving greater diversity in its suppliers, requiring all government agencies to allocate a minimum of 5 percent of their contracts to Māori businesses. These Māori businesses play a vital role in helping lift Māori aspirations and dreams of a better life for their communities, while reinforcing New Zealand’s economic security.

This gave Te Puni Kōkiri, the government’s principal policy advisor on Māori well-being and development, a transformational opportunity to support the overall capabilities of Māori businesses and help them become procurement ready.

Te Puni Kōkiri turned to KPMG in New Zealand because of the firm’s deep expertise in government and Te Ao Māori (the Māori world view), as well as its digital services and advanced Microsoft capabilities. The firm created a tailored business assessment and grant management digital solution for Te Puni Kōkiri called “Te Tomokanga” — a gateway to transforming, uplifting and creating better outcomes for all.

The firm used KPMG Powered Grants and Microsoft Power Platform to develop Te Tomokanga. The platform helps Te Puni Kōkiri’s regional advisors and decision makers assess the needs of Māori businesses and provide support and funding so they can participate in the government’s complex procurement environment.

With KPMG professionals’ expertise and the Microsoft Business Applications suite of tools, Te Puni Kōkiri transformed its previously time- and labor-intensive processes into a fit-for-purpose digital solution that allows it to focus on helping create better outcomes for Aotearoa (New Zealand).
