Temporary zero VAT rate on meat and vegetables
The Department of Taxation announced that—based on the Decree of the Council of Ministers (dated 17 November 2023)—from 1 December 2023 to 31 May 2024 a zero rate of value added tax (VAT) will be applied to supplies of meat and vegetables classified under the following heading codes of the customs tariff:
- Meat, fresh or chilled or frozen
- Meat of bovine animals (CN codes 0201 and 0202)
- Meat of swine (CN code 0203)
- Meat of sheep or goats (CN code 0204)
- Edible offal of bovine, ovine, caprine and porcine animals (CN code ex 0206)
- Meat and edible offal of poultry of heading 0105 (CN code 0207)
- Meat of rabbits or hares and edible offal of rabbits or hares (CN code ex 0208)
- Vegetables, fresh or chilled
- Tomatoes (CN code 0702)
- Onions, shallots, shallots, garlic, leeks and similar vegetables (CN code 0703)
- Cabbages, cauliflowers and broccoli, curled cabbages, turnips, brussels sprouts, and similar edible products of the genus Brassica (CN code 0704)
- Lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and chicory (Cichorium spp.) (CN code 0705)
- Carrots, turnips, salad beetroot, rabbit's foot (wormwood), radicchio, radishes and similar edible roots (CN code 0706)
- Cucumbers and gherkins (CN code 0707)
- Leguminous vegetables with or without pods such as peas and beans (CN code 0708)
- Other vegetables such as asparagus, aubergines, celeriac, mushrooms, truffles, peppers, spinach, artichokes, artichokes, olives not prepared, pumpkins, gourds, courgettes, salads other than lettuce (for example, coriander, parsley, wisteria), capers, fennel (CN code 0709)
