TE/GE priorities for the fiscal year

TE/GE priorities for the fiscal year

The IRS Tax Exempt and Government Entities (TE/GE) division today released a fiscal year 2024 “program letter” that sets out the TE/GE priorities for the fiscal year.

According to today’s IRS release, the fiscal year 2024 compliance program and priorities align with the objectives of the IRS Strategic Operating Plan (SOP):

  • Service (better taxpayer experience)
  • Issue resolution (faster issue resolution)
  • Enforcement (smarter enforcement)
  • Modernization (advanced technology and analytics)
  • Workforce (empowered employees)

More specifically, TE/GE indicated that in the coming fiscal year, the IRS will more readily understand and address the overlap between high-income and high-wealth individuals, exempt organizations, estate and gift tax as TE/GE continues to collaborate on examinations with other divisions. The letter noted that a part of the “smarter enforcement” priority would be collaboration across the IRS on highly complex and or emerging issues including, but not limited to, tax exempt hospitals and high income/high wealth individuals.  Also, as part of the “service” priority TE/GE indicated it will provide education and outreach to help TE/GE stakeholders make complete and accurate elective payment elections for clean energy credits under the “Inflation Reduction Act.”
