Technical guidance updated to reflect TIN codes published by the IRS for reporting missing U.S. TIN

Technical guidance updated to reflect TIN codes published by the IRS

The Finnish tax administration on 5 April 2023 published updated instructions for missing U.S. taxpayer identification numbers (TINs) for FATCA purposes.

  • For data reported for calendar years 2022, 2023 and 2024, a financial institution will not be considered to be significantly non-compliant due to a missing U.S. TIN for a pre-existing account if certain conditions are satisfied. However, beginning calendar year 2023, financial institutions need to annually request a TIN for each pre-existing account with a missing U.S. TIN.
  • The technical guidance on FATCA reporting (v3.0) was updated to reflect the TIN codes published by the IRS for reporting missing U.S. TINs.
