Venture Pulse
Quarterly report on global trends in venture capital investing.
Welcome to the Venture Pulse
Highlights from the Venture Pulse Q1 2019 report
The venture capital (VC) market in the US saw strong activity in Q1’19, buoyed by the stabilization and rebound of the public markets, the positive performance of tech companies that exited through IPOs in 2018 and by the increasing interest in IPO exits from a number of mature, US-based unicorns.
While the number of VC deals in the US declined quarter-over-quarter, VC investment in the US remained very high, with Q1’19 investment coming second only to Q4’18, which was lifted by Juul’s $12.8 billion funding round.
This quarterly report highlights key issues, trends, and opportunities facing the venture capital (VC) market globally and in major jurisdictions around the world. Below are key highlights from the US:
- Overall VC investment remains robust – reaches $32.6 billion in Q1’19
- Median series D+ deal size grows to $60 million
- Corporate venture capital participation surpasses 17% - again
- Strong exit activity – IPO outlook looking positive
- Fundraising finally slows following a record end to 2018
