KPMG, in cooperation with The Association of Serbian Banks, conducted a survey that analyzed the maturity of Serbian banks for the implementation of artificial intelligence and presented it in May 2026 at the BankFining conference in Zlatibor.
The survey included 18 banks, while the research methodology included a quantitative approach with a focus on assessing different dimensions of AI transformation, such as strategy, level of implementation, employee competencies, risk management, data quality, infrastructure and readiness for the introduction of regulations.
The results show that Serbian banks are at an early stage of development, with an average maturity level of 28%, with most institutions using AI through fragmented initiatives without a clearly defined strategy and adequate data preparation.
