Leading in an evolving tax and business landscape

The world around us has changed dramatically in recent years, with geopolitical shifts and technological innovation; globalization, on the one hand, and protectionism, on the other; various tax reforms and regulatory change; new business and consumer demands and the emergence of previously unseen types of business models.

As a leading tax network, we believe that we – as individual tax professionals have a duty to engage in the discussion and debate surrounding Tax Transparency and Responsibility. As the tax strategies of multinationals and domestic companies continue to be examined by both tax authorities and the public alike, we work with our clients to develop tax strategies that are fit for purpose in the tax system of tomorrow.

Working with clients to define the tax department of tomorrow. To keep pace with the reporting changes, multinational corporations will need to evaluate their in-house resources to determine if they will be able to manage additional requirements and responsibilities. They will also need to assess their systems to ensure that they can meet new requirements for multijurisdictional reporting.

Our tax professionals are also bound by our Principles for a Responsible Tax Practice, which set out additional fundamental ethical principles and behaviours.

Following our initial newsletter on the Nigeria Tax Act, we note that some provisions in the harmonised version used to prepare the newsletter are different from the gazette which has now become publicly available. While the structure and intent of the Act remain largely unchanged, a few notable refinements have been introduced in the signed version.

The Nigeria Tax Act (NTA or “the Act”) repeals certain existing tax laws and consolidates the legal framework governing taxation in the country into a single legislation for simplicity and improved tax administration. Consolidating tax provisions into one single document will also help to eliminate overlapping, conflicting or ambiguous provisions that can result in unnecessary complexity and uncertainty.

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) issued a Public Notice on 29 July 2025, announcing the discontinuation of the issuance of Tax Exemption Certificates (TECs) to taxpayers, specifically Pioneer Status Incentive (PSI) Companies, Non-Government Organization (NGO)s, and Free Zone Entities (FZE).
