Partner, Financial Services

Accountant, mentor, family man.

“From intern to partner, I’ve had enough experiences to fill up several careers. I started KPMG right out of university and have been here ever since. The reason why can be summed up in one word: opportunity.

Shortly after joining the Audit Practice in Financial Services in Australia, I starting working with a variety of clients, both global and local. Having the chance to work on several different teams allowed me to figure out what I was truly interested in. I even did a secondment for a client, working in a finance team at a major bank. It was one of the most influential experiences of my early career because it showed me what it was like on the other side and although I had a great time there it really solidified and reminded me of what I enjoyed most about KPMG: the opportunity to be exposed to different industries, people and roles.

I didn’t always know that making partner would be a major goal for me. But I worked hard, went after opportunities and was determined to learn everything I could about business. On becoming a partner I was introduced to a new world with a new set of challenges and responsibilities. It’s been one of the proudest moments of my career. As partner, I’m an owner in the business, which has changed my perspective as a colleague, boss and client partner. I have a responsibility to leave the practice better than when I found it. For me, that means investing in the relationships I already have – both inside and outside KPMG – and continuing to build new ones every day.

My kids call me the “policeman of accountants” but I’d like to think of myself more as a coach. One of the most fulfilling aspects of my role as a partner is helping others achieve their goals. When I started at KPMG, I worked with people at all levels – from my fellow interns to the Head of Audit. That’s why I make it a priority to do the same, helping the people I work with develop their skills and find their passions so they can have as many opportunities as I did.”
