World Masters Games 2017 and KPMG have joined forces in a partnership that will see the business of sport become a talking point at Games-time.

KPMG is one of the world’s leading providers of audit, tax and advisory services and operates out of seven cities across New Zealand.

“KPMG are proud sponsors of the World Masters Games 2017, which is one of the most significant and complex events New Zealand has hosted”, says Ross Buckley, Executive Chairman of KPMG.

“At KPMG, we are committed to fuelling New Zealand’s prosperity, not only for our clients but also our communities. And by prosperity we mean shared wealth and lasting wellbeing for all New Zealanders. Commitment to our communities is at the heart of KPMG’s values and culture. Our sponsorship of the World Masters Games 2017 reflects shared values and common attributes; to lead by example, work together, commitment to our communities and act with integrity.

“Our partnership with World Masters Games, further reflects our commitment to helping New Zealand optimise the return from major sporting events. The partnership builds on our expertise demonstrated through our involvement with Rugby World Cup 2011 (we were Official Suppliers of Advisory and Tax Services), Cricket World Cup 2015 and other major events. As a firm, we have considerable experience and expertise in business issues relating to major events in New Zealand, and we are looking forward to building on this as a partner of the World Masters Games 2017.”

World Masters Games 2017 Chief Executive Jennah Wootten said that in working closely with New Zealand national and Auckland regional sports organizations in the staging of the Games, it is important to recognize the industry and its immense contribution to the economy of New Zealand.

“In much the same way as New Zealand punches above its weight when it comes to sporting competition, there is an equivalent wealth of talent behind the scenes, driving the industry forward,” she says.

“What we have observed is that there is an important dialogue to be had around the business of sport in this country – the challenges and opportunities – and how we can use an experience like WMG2017 to learn, to build capability, and kick-start future thinking.

“We look forward to developing a sport-business event in conjunction with KPMG that picks up on key themes that have emerged during our journey this far, and issues that remain topical for the industry in this country.”

World Masters Games 2017 is the largest multi-sport event in the world by competitor numbers. It is also the largest event New Zealand will stage this decade. More than 25,000 competitors, 3000 supporters and 4000 volunteers will be directly involved in bringing the event to life.
