Shubhendu has specialised in Global Trade and indirect taxes over the past 3 decades. His experience spans professional advisory as well as in-house corporate roles. He was the Global Director for Customs & Trade for a Franco-Japanese automotive alliance group with global operations and sales of over USD150 billion. He has lived and worked in China, France, Hong Kong (SAR), India, Japan, Thailand and Singapore, and provided advice to businesses across sectors (automotive, industrial products, consumer goods, apparel, chemicals, pharma, med-tech and technology).

      Shubhendu led customs and indirect tax workstreams for greenfield and brownfield manufacturing facilities set up in several countries in India, Asia-Pac, Europe and South America. He led assignments for supply chain and legal entity restructuring to streamline tariffs and indirect taxes. He has led several projects for such restructuring to increase and accelerate duty and VAT/GST incentives recovery and implementing U.S. first sale for export structures. Shubhendu has assisted automakers on supply chain realignment to enhance local content and to address transfer pricing matters in customs bonded free zone operations.

      He has carried out supplier footprint optimisation projects in the consumer goods and automotive sectors to balance between landed cost of materials versus local content/FTA considerations for final products.

      He led a project for ASEAN market entry assessment for a European luxury automotive OEM. This encompassed a range of work streams including, market assessment, supply base evaluation, licensing requirements and duty and tax assessment with an overlay of FTAs.

      He has been involved in customs function and organisational design, creating customs vision and mission statements, corporate policies and has also led teams in setting up and managing customs and trade centers of excellence, and managing customs digital initiatives.
