As a manager in KPMG NewTech’s hyperautomation team, Kristine Waldal Olsen works on implementing large-scale transformation projects and automation solutions for businesses. These projects typically involve analyzing business processes, identifying areas where automation can make a difference, and designing solutions that integrate various technologies such as robotics, workflow tools, and AI.

Kristine’s role as a project manager focuses on ensuring smooth delivery. Additionally, it is essential that the solutions are embedded within the organization and create real value. She says:

"I see myself as the bridge between technology and business. It’s about understanding business visions while also having technical insight – and most importantly, ensuring that the solutions we develop provide real value."

      Changing the mindset about technology

One of the aspects Kristine finds most rewarding is creating meaningful change within organizations.

"I have been involved in several projects where we have helped clients transition from having low digital maturity to rethinking their core business with a more digital approach – including AI adoption. It has been exciting to see how we have helped change their mindset while learning what works best in practice," she explains.

For Kristine, success is not just about technology but also about people. "We need to ensure that the employees who will be using these solutions find them exciting and understand their value."

A passion for technology’s role in society

Kristine’s motivation extends beyond her work with businesses. She sees technology as a crucial element in shaping society and is driven by the opportunity to influence how we think about and use technology, particularly AI.

"Technology is all around us, and society is becoming increasingly digital. I believe it’s important to be part of shaping how we use technology – and just as importantly, how we shouldn’t use it. That’s what makes working in this industry so exciting."

However, she also acknowledges the challenges: "For many people, technology is an abstract concept. It exists in the cloud or inside a computer. Part of my job is to make it less abstract and help people understand what they actually gain from the choices they make."

      Finding the right path

Kristine’s journey into the IT industry wasn’t planned from the start. After high school, she began a business degree without a clear idea of what she wanted to do. During her studies, she landed an internship in HR but quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit for her.

"I discovered that HR wasn’t for me, but I loved working with processes and projects. I got involved in developing a digital learning game, and that’s when I realized I wanted to work in IT."

This led her to pursue a master’s degree in digital innovation at the IT University of Copenhagen – and later to a position at KPMG NewTech, where she has now worked for 4.5 years.

"I never thought I would become a consultant, but I love it."

With a strong passion for both people and technology, Kristine continues to bridge the gap between business and technology, helping companies navigate an increasingly digital future.

"For me, the most important thing is ensuring that technology makes a real difference – both for businesses and for people."
