New rules, less complexity: the most important developments for financial service providers.

The financial sector is entering a year of many changes. In the latest issue of our Horizonte magazine, we provide an overview of the topics that banks, insurers, and investment companies should be keeping an eye on right now.

EU supervisory authorities: priorities for 2026

The European financial supervisory authorities (EBA, ESMA, EIOPA) and their Joint Committee have published their programs for 2026. The focus is on sustainable finance, digital transformation, and strengthening operational resilience. Institutions should prepare for stricter requirements with regard to IT risks and data quality.

SSM priorities: Vigilance remains the order of the day

The ECB continues to see high levels of uncertainty: geopolitical tensions, potential macrofinancial shocks, and volatile markets. Its supervisory priorities for 2026 to 2028 call on banks to regularly reassess risks and prepare for extreme scenarios. Resilience and robust governance are crucial.

Omnibus package: Less bureaucracy, new ESG challenges

With the Omnibus Package, the EU aims to simplify sustainability reporting. For banks, this means less reporting obligations—but also the need to use ESG data more consistently and make ESG processes more efficient. Those who act now can future-proof their ESG strategy.

Solvency II: Reform in the home stretch

In the insurance sector, the revision of Solvency II is in its final stages. The adjustments relate to proportionality, sustainability risks, and macroprudential instruments. Insurers should integrate the new requirements into their capital and risk models at an early stage.

      Governance as a priority

The EBA is revising its guidelines on internal governance. In addition to CRD VI and DORA requirements, diversity and remuneration policy are coming under greater scrutiny. For financial institutions, this means reviewing their governance structures and clearly documenting responsibilities.
