At KPMG, giving back is an essential aspect of life and an integral part of our values, culture, and Impact Plan. Through the KPMG Foundation, we want to give our people the opportunity and time to make a real difference in the community and charities they care about. By giving every person the opportunity to submit a volunteer work project, we aim to motivate everyone to get actively involved and make an impact.

KPMG Foundation Project

The Foundation Forêt de Soignes/Zoniënwoud is one of the volunteering projects under the KPMG Foundation selected by our people. The Foundation is responsible for overseeing the management of the Sonian Forest, an extensive woodland covering over 5,000 hectares that stretches across three regions: Flanders, Brussels, and Wallonia.

The Foundation's main mission is to foster collaborative efforts that benefit this vast and ecologically important forest. This includes encouraging public involvement, facilitating communication among stakeholders, managing visitor experiences, and collecting essential data to ensure the forest's well-being.

Making an impact

Volunteering project Spring 2024

On Wednesday, 3 July 2024, 67 colleagues from KPMG Advisory joined forces for another successful conservation day in the Foundation Forêt de Soignes/Zoniënwoud. Guided by partners from the Foundation, the day began with a guided walk exploring the forest's significance as a UNESCO World Heritage site and its future conservation.

Next, our volunteers participated in crucial manual tasks, supervised by foresters and partners of the Foundation:

  • Controlling the invasive Prunus serotina species;
  • Clean-up action; and
  • Closing of pirate trails.

Volunteering project Autumn 2023

On 21 September 2023, our KPMG volunteers dedicated an entire afternoon to conservation efforts in the forest.

Under the guidance of experienced forest guides and caretakers, they tackled the following tasks:

  • Managing the Prunus serotina, an invasive tree species that hinders the growth of native plants.
  • Removing protective sheaths from young trees to promote their healthy development.

Our volunteers truly excelled in their mission to clean and protect the forest, contributing to our efforts in maintaining a green capital.

We're very grateful that our people took the opportunity and time to make a real difference. Because only #Together, many hands make warm hearts.
