The Albanian Parliament has approved the Law no. 91/2024 on “Some amendments to the Law no. 7961 date 12.07.1995 “Labor Code of the Republic of Albania” (the “amendments”), which enters into force on 25 August 2024.
The amendments to the Labor Code were adopted in line with the recent changes in the employment practices in the European Union following the pandemic, promoting efficient labor market policies.
Duration of the annual paid leave
The duration of the annual paid leave of the employees has been changed from “four calendar weeks” to 22 business days.
Use of the annual paid leave
Under the amendments the limitation on the use of the annual paid leave providing that “the annual paid leave must not be less than a calendar week” has been removed thus entitling the employees to use as many days as necessary from their annual paid leave. Such amendment aims to increase flexibility in use of the annual paid leave by the employees.
