Joe Faulkner comments on the announcement of eight new Freeports
Commenting on the announcement of eight new Freeports made by the Chancellor in his Budget, Joe Faulkner who heads up KPMG’s Norwich office said :
‘’News the Felixstowe and Harwich have been approved as a freeport is a fantastic boost to the region and has the potential to dramatically change the future economy for our local businesses and the people that work here.
‘’The benefits that this will bring to the region in terms of improved infrastructure, inward investment, new job creation in highly skilled industries and boosting connectivity and trade should prove a catalyst for economic growth for generations to come.
‘’As the UK moves towards a lower-carbon, more sustainable future, freeports hold the potential for future opportunities in hydrogen, offshore wind and tidal power, ensuring the East of England becomes a focal point of the Government’s Net Zero ambitions and continue to act as a global beacon for renewable technologies.’’
