Ian leads KPMG’s national capital allowances practice, a multi-disciplinary team consisting of accounts, tax advisers, engineers and surveyors. Ian has worked in capital allowances for over 20 years within big 4 accountancy firms. Ian trained in construction as a quantity surveyor before moving into capital allowances.

Ian has been at the forefront of some of the largest capital investment projects across the UK and has experience throughout all sectors and specialisms often working alongside HMRC and industry groups to implement sector wide processes. Recent areas of specialism include renewable energy generation and transmission, heavy industry and infrastructure assets.

Alongside core capital allowances portfolio and development expenditure, Ian advises on transaction and deals work helping businesses to structure transactions to ensure eligible allowances are available.

Ian is currently focussing on developing KPMG’s tax data analytics engine “TDAE”. As the move towards AI is working its way in to all areas of life, automation of fixed asset categorisation is fast becoming a new way of working in the capital allowances sector. Helping clients to achieve this will be a focus of Ian’s role ahead.
