Barry became Director of Communications in November 2023 and is responsible for all internal and external communications across the UK.

Prior to joining KMPG, Barry was the Global Director of Communications and Standard Chartered Bank and was responsible for all group media, internal communications, communications across Europe and NA as well as marketing for the investment bank. Before this Barry was Global Director for Campaigns at HSBC, a role designed to get the bank back on the front foot by driving positive communication strategies. 

Prior to banking there was beer, and Barry was the Global Director of Policy, Public and Industry Affairs at SAB Miller, at the time the world’s second largest producer of beer, and was responsible for global industry affairs, tax and regulatory policy, commercial governance and UK Corporate Affairs. The purpose of the job was to build organisational capability and competitive advantage through proactive management of regulatory, policy and reputational channels.

For over a decade Barry was the Director of Public Affairs and European Policy at Centrica, the owners of British Gas, where he was responsible for the Group’s UK and EU public affairs activity, he was a member of the Centrica leadership team. 

Barry studied Politics and Parliamentary Studies at the University of Leeds, specialising in public policy and comparative lobbying and campaign processes.  During this period, he worked for a US Congressman and a Member of the UK Parliament. Upon leaving University, Barry worked for a transport pressure group as Campaigns Officer before moving to a political consultancy where he advised clients on a range of transport and environmental issues.
